Foam

Firefighting foam extinguishes a fire by cooling the burning surfaces and depriving the fire of oxygen, whilst preventing flammable vapors to escape. It is applied to liquid fuels, plastics, paints, solvents, alcohols, different types of refuse, recycled materials and forests. The type of foam we choose depends on the hazard. The mixing rate is determined by the foam proportioner used. Low-expansion foam is selected for fast surface coverage, medium-expansion foam is often used to increase firefighter safety after a low-expansion foam application and high-expansion foam is usually applied to total-flooding systems for enclosed spaces. Synthetic

Synthetic foam, or Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) is a concentrate consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilizers. The foam forms an aqueous film that rapidly cuts off the oxygen supply and knocks down the fire. The expanded foam, from which the film is drained, forms a stable blanket that suppresses the release of flammable vapors and cools down the fuel surface, extinguishing the fire and preventing re-ignition.

Protein

Protein foam concentrate is produced from a carefully controlled blend of hydrolyzed protein, foam boosters, stabilizers and preservatives. The expanded foam produced by the foam equipment is tough, stable, heat-resistant and covers the burning fuel surface rapidly. Once fire suppression has been achieved, the high stability of the foam blanket protects against the risk of re-ignition (or ‘burn-back’), thus creating a safe working area for firefighters

Alcohol resistant

Alcohol-resistant foams (AFFF-AR, FP-AR, FFFP-AR) are produced by adding special polymers, which make the foam extremely effective against polar solvents and alcohols. Alcohol-resistant foams usually have a high viscosity, so the appropriate foam mixing equipment should be selected. The choice of low viscosity foam for alcohols is also available, at an additional cost

Fluorine free

Fluorine-free synthetic foam (F3) is manufactured without the addition of fluorinated substances, which makes it environmentally friendly and thus ideal for applications sensitive to environmental hazards. It is effective against hydrocarbon fires, while with the addition of special polymers it is also effective against alcohols and polar solvents (F3-AR).

High expansion

High expansion foam (HI EXP) is used in combination with appropriate foam generators in total flooding systems of enclosed spaces. It combats fires by engulfing the area, restricting the supply of oxygen, cooling the burning surfaces and suppressing flammable gases, by creating an inert atmosphere. Alcohol-resistant types of this foam (HI EXP-AR) are also available.

Forrest foam

Forest foam – or Class A foam as it is widely known – is a specially selected blend of high activity hydrocarbon surfactants, solvents and stabilizers for use on class A fires (e.g. paper, wood). It does not contain any hazardous substances and is environmentally friendly. Our forest foam made by FOMTEC Sweden is approved by the US Forest Service.
